Perhaps the most important step of your skincare routine: SPF!

SPF is the abbreviation for Sun Protection Factor, the factor of your sunscreen indicates how much UVB radiation the cream or lotion can absorb or reflect. UVB radiation is the reason that your epidermis burns and turns red when you stay in the sun for too long or forget to apply sunscreen. SPF protects your skin against harmful UV rays and therefore actually ensures that it takes longer for your skin to burn.

Which factor do you need?

On a normal day in the Netherlands, factor 15 is sufficient for most people, is it a beautiful summer day? Then take a factor of 30 and reapply regularly. Are you going to swim? Then reapply after swimming, even if your sunscreen is waterproof!

SPF depends on skin type

In addition to looking at how sunny it is outside, you should also look at your skin type to determine which factor you need.

Do you have very light skin, often with freckles, light blond or reddish hair, do you burn easily and you never get tanned? Then you need at least factor 20-30 on a normal day and at least factor 50 on a sunny day.

Do you have light skin, blond hair, light eyes, do you burn easily and tan very slowly? Then you need at least factor 15 on a normal day and factor 50 on sunny days.

Do you have a slightly tinted skin, dark blond to brown hair, do you rarely burn and tan easily? Then factor 10-15 is enough on normal days and factor 30 on sunny days.

Do you have a tinted skin, dark hair, do you almost never burn and tan very well? Then factor 6-10 will be enough on normal days and use at least factor 15 on sunny days.
