How to: ultimate fake tan routine
Sun's out, buns out! Okay, you don't have to do that right away, but the summer dresses can already be out of the closet. But are those legs already summer ready or do they still glow? Time to fake tan! Do you want to know what to do for a flawless, long-lasting fake tan? Here's how!
The ultimate fake tan routine
You think 'make me tan without sun'! Yes... that's nice and nice, but secretly there's something else involved to get yourself the perfect fake tan!
Do not panic! I would like to explain to you which steps you can best take for a summer tan without having to take the spring sun every fifteen minutes to caramelize those milk bottles ;-). Because a color under that dress is just that little bit more fun!
First off
First a question... do you apply a moisturizer to your body every day? New? I understand! Busy busy busy ... but to keep your fake tan as long as possible, this is recommended. So... if you want the ultimate fake tan, start rubbing your skin daily with your favorite body butter, lotion or cream a week in advance and get that skin hydrated!
That being said, let's go to step 1 of the fake tan routine:
scrub
A fake tan lasts best and longest on a flawless skin. Get rid of dead skin cells and old fake tan leftovers, so scrub that trade! It is best to do this 24 hours in advance.
Oh! While you're in the shower, shave your legs right away. This is also better 24 hours in advance so that the hair follicles have time to close again. The brown color can otherwise settle in the hair follicles, which can cause small spots and we just don't want that.
And then on to step 2!
Moisturize
You already started this right? Okay, good :-).
After you have thoroughly exfoliated and shaved your body, reapply a good moisturizer after you shower. This is also 24 hours in advance. Especially your hands, feet, knees and elbows. Your skin is a bit drier there than the rest of your skin and rubbing it well prevents stains!
Okay! Now your skin is wonderfully smooth for an even tan session... tomorrow.
Wash down
This one is for the diehards among us! Just before applying your self-tanner, take a cold shower to rinse off any leftover cream, deodorant, and sweat.
I hear a slight panic...'why cold?!' Well...cold water will close your pores because as I said before, the tan can get in there and create a blotchy result.
Come on, you can do it!
fake tan
The time has finally come! Ladies and gentleman, we're ready to fake tan!
First things first, bring your tanning mitt! Because we don't want orange palms! And is essential for a streak-free result. Apply your favorite self-tanner to the mitt, starting at your feet and working your way up. Work in sections and in circular motions so that you can apply and distribute the color evenly over your skin. You can use a body brush for difficult spots. This gives a nice even airbrushed result.
Did it work? Is everything nicely evenly applied? Then it's time to let it soak in and develop into that coveted summer tan!
Rinse step 2
The moment of truth has arrived! Depending on which self-tanner you used and the depth of the color you want, you rinse off the self tan after the processing time. Do not use water that is too hot and do not dry your skin violently. Pat yourself dry with a towel.
To enjoy your color for as long as possible, it is important to continue to nourish your skin. So keep applying those fine moisturizers every day.
Et voila! You're ready to show off your fake tan!
