Which lash glue do you need?

That depends on the kind of lashes you wear. Broadly, there are three:

• Lash glue for strip lashes: a liquid adhesive you apply to the band, for a day of wear.
• Bond & seal: two steps for cluster lashes that you place under your own lashes.
• Separate bonder and sealer: the same technique in individual bottles, for anyone who does DIY lashes often.

Wearing pre glued lashes? Then you need no glue at all: the adhesive strip is already on the band.

Lash glue for strip lashes

This is the classic eyelash glue, and it is what most people are after. You run a thin line along the band, wait until the glue turns tacky, and only then press the lash on. Brands like DUO, Eylure, essence, Catrice and W7 make it in a tube with a brush tip or a fine nozzle. A good strip glue holds for a day and peels off the band in one piece afterwards, so you can wear the lashes again.

Bond and seal for cluster lashes

Bond & seal works differently. The bonder goes onto your own lashes, you place the clusters underneath, and the sealer closes everything off. That combination is why DIY lashes last for days rather than hours. Kiss Falscara, Queen Tarzi, Lola's Lashes and Nanolash all use this system.

Clear or black lash adhesive?

Clear glue dries invisible and is the safest choice if you are unsure or if you don't wear eyeliner. Black glue stays visible and works like a fine eyeliner line: it visually thickens the lash line and hides the band. If you draw eyeliner over the band anyway, the colour makes little difference.

How do you apply lash glue?

• Clean your lashes: glue bonds badly to mascara, oil or yesterday's residue.
• Use a little: one thin line along the whole band is enough. Too much glue is the most common mistake.
• Wait 30 seconds: let the glue dry until it is tacky, then it grips straight away.
• Set the band in place: use tweezers or an applicator, they work far more precisely than your fingers.

How long does lash glue last?

A strip glue is for a day; at the end of the evening you take the lashes off again. With a bond & seal under your lashes you get longer, up to around ten days with most brands. If you swim or train a lot, expect less. Lash glue is not the same as the adhesive a salon uses for lash extensions: that one is applied hair by hair and belongs to a treatment, not in your make-up bag.

Removing lash glue

Never pull hard on the band, or your own lashes come with it. Soften the glue with a cotton bud and a little remover, let it sit for a moment, then peel the lash off starting at the outer corner. Take the glue residue off the band afterwards, so the lashes are ready for next time.

Is lash glue safe?

The adhesives in our range are tested for use around the eyes. If you have sensitive eyes or wear contact lenses, pick a latex-free option and test it on the inside of your wrist first. If it stings, rinse with lukewarm water and stop using that glue.
