When you are looking for the right skincare routine, a good SPF always comes to the fore. Whether the sun is shining or raining, a sunscreen should not be missing as the last step in your routine. But what is SPF and how does it work? We are happy to tell you.

What is SPF?

SPF (Sun Protection Factor) or sunscreen, both terms are often used for the same thing. It is a product that protects your skin from the harmful effects of the sun, including premature aging and skin cancer. SPF is measured on a scale, with higher numbers offering more protection.

How does SPF50 work?

SPF50 is the most powerful form of sun protection. The number 50 indicates that the product protects your skin from 98% of UVB rays. Although no product offers 100% protection – so you can still burn – SPF50 comes closest. So, do you suffer from sensitive skin or do you want to protect your skin optimally? Always choose an SPF50.

How long does SPF50 provide protection?

The duration of protection depends on several factors. First of all, it depends on how quickly your skin would normally burn without protection. SPF is often multiplied by the time you could stay without protection before burning. For example, if you would normally burn after 10 minutes, SPF50 would theoretically provide 50 times longer protection, so about 500 minutes.

These figures are only a rough estimate. Factors such as sweating, swimming and friction reduce the effectiveness of the protection. Therefore, it is advised to reapply sunscreen every two hours, especially after activities that may remove the cream.

So it is important to keep applying sunscreen. SPF50 helps protect your skin from the harmful effects of the sun. Even when the sun is not shining, it is important to apply sunscreen. Even on cloudy days, the sun's harmful UV rays can penetrate the clouds and reach your skin. That is why it is essential to use sunscreen every day, regardless of the weather.

We recommend always using a sunscreen as the last step in your routine. Do you have questions about SPF or need advice for a proper skincare routine? Talk to us in the chat or send us an email, we are happy to help you.
